2016 Board of Trustees Elections

One year ago, on May 6th, 2015, the F# Software Foundation elected its first Board of Trustees. A lot has happened since then: membership has grown by over 50%, the Foundation has become an official 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in the United States, a mentorship program has started, a speaker program offering financial support for travelling speakers has been put in place, the FSSF helped organize fsharpConf, and multiple corporate sponsors are now supporting the foundation.

In the upcoming weeks, the F# Software Foundation will hold its second elections for its Board of Trustees. The role of the Board is to oversee the vision and mission of the F# Software Foundation, to set the goals, and to appoint officers to run the daily operations as appropriate. As such, it is crucial that it represents the F# Community in all of its diversity, which is why the Bylaws require an annual election.

The general process for the elections will remain similar to last year: after a period open for nominations, we will have a campaign, followed by an election and our Annual Meeting of the Members. We are looking forward to a healthy election, and to achieving even more in the year ahead!

Election Process

The plan for the elections is to use the following tentative schedule (subject to change):

  • April 28th: Nominations for new Board of Trustees was opened to Sustaining Member and Sponsor Delegates
  • May 11th: Nominations close
  • May 12th: Campaigning for all nominees begins
  • May 26th: Voting opens
  • June 1st: Voting ends
  • June 2nd: Annual Member meeting held, new Board of Trustees announced

Nominations for a position on the Board of Trustees can be made by any Sustaining Member or Sponsor Delegate. Once a candidate has been nominated, we will contact them to go over the responsibilities of a Board of Trustees Member and verify that they are interested in running for a position on the Board of Trustees.

All nominated candidates will be able to create a page with a statement which will be placed on foundation.fsharp.org during the campaigning process.  There will be a two week period for candidates to campaign prior to the opening of the voting process.

At the annual members meeting the newly elected Board of Trustees will be announced.  The current Board will work with the new Board of Trustees to make the transition as seamless as possible.
