Every year around Spring time, the F# Software Foundation holds elections for its Board of Trustees. The role of the Board is to oversee the vision and mission of the F# Software Foundation, to set the goals, and to appoint officers to run the daily operations as appropriate. It is now time for our members to choose who will represent them as the Board of Trustees for 2019-2020.
Once again, the last year has seen a strong growth of F# and its Community, and the F# Software Foundation has been actively expanding its programs to support that growth. As such, it is crucial that the Board of Trustees represents the F# Community in all of its diversity, and helps shape F# growth towards the future. The elections are a chance for our Members to directly influence and have a voice in where F# and the F# Software Foundation lead, by nominating people they think will drive the mission forward. For our Sustaining Members, voting for who they think will best represent the Foundation allows you all to directly impact the future of the Foundation.
The general process for the elections will remain similar to last year: after a period open for nominations, we will have a campaign, followed by an election and our Annual Meeting of the Members. We are looking forward to a healthy election, and to achieving even more in the year ahead!
Election Process
The plan for the elections is to use the following tentative schedule (subject to change):
- May 3rd: Nominations for new Board of Trustees is opened to Sustaining Member and Sponsor Delegates
- May 13th: Nominations close
- May 14th: Campaigning for all nominees begins
- May 27th: Voting opens
- May 30th: Voting ends
- May 31st: Annual Member meeting held at 18:00 UTC, new Board of Trustees announced
Nominations for a position on the Board of Trustees can be made by any Sustaining Member or Sponsor Delegate by sending an email to [email protected]. Once a candidate has been nominated, we will contact them to go over the responsibilities of a Trustee on the Board and verify that they are interested in running for a position on the Board of Trustees.
All nominated candidates will be able to create a page with a statement which will be placed on forums.fsharp.org during the campaigning process. There will be a two-weeks period for candidates to campaign prior to the opening of the voting process.
At the annual members meeting the newly elected Board of Trustees will be announced. The current Board will work with the new Board of Trustees to make the transition as seamless as possible.
Annual Meeting of the Members
The Annual Meeting of the Members of the Foundation will take place at on May 31st at 18:00 UTC, at 40 Lafeyette St, Yarmouth, ME, USA, in a conference room on the 2nd floor. The meeting will be simultaneously held on the F# Software Foundation's Slack Team, in a dedicated channel (#2019_members_meeting) for all members who are not local.
